Deep River Public Library

Human Library

The Human Library is coming to Deep River! Join us for conversations and connections with human books from our community.
The Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers. A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered.
Books are people who have a story to tell that could help to dispel assumptions or foster understanding. Human Libraries have offered “books” with titles such as “Trans-gendered”, “Wiccan”, “Bipolar”, “Living with an Addiction”, or “Refugee”, to name a few.
How does it work?
Books are people who have a story to tell that could help dispel assumptions or foster understanding. A collection books will be available for people to check out on Thursday, October 12th. Each book will be available to check out in 15 minute time slots. There will be suggested questions to get the ball rolling, and a simple code of conduct to keep things respectful. Each book will be available during a 2 hour shift. Schedule and titles will be available for review closer to the event date.
