Things to Consider Before You Submit a Request:
- Does the library already own this item? Please consider putting a hold on an item if it is currently out with another patron. You will likely get the item faster this way than ordering through interlibrary loan.
- The age of the material. We Cannot request material published in the last 12 months. Please consider submitting a request for purchase instead.
- Requests are limited to 5 active requests per patron.
How Can I Submit an Interlibrary Loan Request?
- Online – After searching the Interlibrary Loan Catalogue and clicking “Request” on the item, you will be prompted to Sign In or Create an Account for Ontario Library Services. If you need help, follow this tutorial.
- In person at the library by filling out a paper form including your name, card number, title & type of item and the author.

FAQ
Can I use Interlibrary Loans for my book club?
Please speak to a librarian or email ill@deepriverlibrary.ca if you are looking for book club support. There are separate forms and steps required to get multiple copies of a title for a book club.
How long will it take for my request to arrive?
While this varies based on the availability of the item, most requests are filled in as little as 2 weeks.
How will I know when my item is available?
When your item has arrived and been processed, you will receive an email from info@deepriverlibrary.ca. Please make sure your current email address is linked to your account.
Why didn’t my request get filled?
Some requests are more difficult to fill than others. It may be that there are no libraries in Ontario with a copy to lend.
Your request may also go unfilled if all the libraries in the lending string reply “no” to the request. You will be notified by email if your request cannot be filled.
How long do I get to keep my item for?
The typical lending period for interlibrary loan items is 3 weeks. Please return the item by the date written on the book band on the back cover of the item.
Can I get a renewal on my Interlibrary Loan item?
A request for renewal can be made through your account, or by emailing ill@deepriverlibrary.ca. The request gets sent to the lending library and will either be accepted or declined.
